Hi, my name is Joe Akialis. Born in New Jersey, I moved to Florida when I was 4 years old. I have lived in Ormond Beach for the past 25 years. Before becoming a Realtor, I enjoyed being a golf professional, giving golf lessons and running golf tournaments in the Central Florida area. Most recently, I was a golf professional at Plantation Bay Country Club located in sunny Ormond Beach, Florida. Teaching golf to kids in the summertime was one of the most rewarding parts of my job. My experience on the golf course has taught me honesty, integrity and commitment to achieving success. Besides golfing, in my spare time I enjoy playing guitar and longboarding.
After going to college in Gainesville, Florida, I entered the Golf Academy of the South, located in Orlando, and I earned a degree in Business Management and a Teaching Certificate.
My wife Ashley and I enjoy traveling to interesting locations every year. We live in Ormond Beach and we have two dogs who love evening walks and chasing squirrels. Blue is a two year old Lab/Australian Shepherd mix and Fidgit is a five year old Lab/Veesla mix we rescued last year.

BUYING YOUR HOME - GETTING STARTED
The best way to start the process of buying a home is to do a little research on what you are looking for and how much you can afford. If you are local drive around neighborhoods that you may be considering and sign up for a direct email program that will allow you to be updated when new homes hit the market in your price range. This will give you a great feel for what is available. If you are not local give me a call and I will send you an excellant map so that you can see the exact location of the homes you receive and the proximity to beach, river, schools, places of worship etc.
When you are a little more serious about finding that perfect home, it is worth contacting an agent and chatting to them to see if they may be someone you can trust to advise you during your search. The reasen an Agent is helpful is that they have a lot more information to them than you do, and a good one, will share freely! In addition they probably have a network with service providers you will need - from lenders to inspectors, to title companies, termite inspectors, insurance providers and other parties that can make or break your experience of purchasing a home. They will also walk you through the process and be looking out for your needs all the way.
One of the necest things about having an agent represent you is that they don't cost you a dime!! In 1995 (yes, recently) it became obvious that home buyers were not being protected, as Real Estate Agent's sole duty was to the seller. The agents goal was to sell the home for the best possible price, in the shortest possible time with the minimum amount of repairs (great for the seller!) The needs of the buyer were not being protected and many home buyers were jipped into over paying. When Congress realzied what was happening, they passed a law that all home buyers deserve the right to equal representation.

I was born in Daytona Beach, FL and lived the majority of my life in Ormond Beach where I attended local schools. Shortly after high school I married and moved to Ormond by the Sea where I currently live.
After high school I went to college and raised my two sons, Christopher and Aaron. In my spare time I wrote environmental stories for a local paper. I have served as chairman for the National Sierra Club at the local level and also served on local committees for Friends for Bicentennial Park. In the Late 1990's I was appointed by the Volusia County Council to serve on the Municipal Service District for Ormond by the Sea and in my past time held fund raisers to help the less fortunate.
I began my real-estate career in 1998 and maintained being in the top 50 to 100 Realtors® in sales for many years... I have taken the Recreational and Resort Sales Designation classes held in Las Vegas, which has helped me to increase my knowledge on living and selling in a resort town. I have also won many awards from Prudential Real Estate.
